Frequently Asked Questions

What is the "Site of the Day" and how does my website get picked?

A "Site of the Day" is featured on the home page with a screenshot of the website and some information about it. The websites are picked based on any of the following attributes:

Great Content / Concept: If a website has really outstanding content and/or a unique concept that we think people will want to know about, we will feature it. The website does not have to have an outstanding design as long as it has worthwhile content and as long as it is usable to the visitor.

Great Design: If a website has a really eye-catching or unique design, it could be featured here.

Originality: If a website is unique and original in some way, it could also be featured here.

In summary, if we think people may want to know about a particular website for one or all of the reasons above, we will feature it on this site.

Why is there a submission fee?

The $10 submission fee covers the cost of reviewing a website for inclusion. During the Beta version of this site, submissions were free, but the amount of submissions were more than we could keep up with for free. The submission fee also helps to cut down on spam submissions. But even if you don't submit your site, there is still a chance that your website could be add to the Queue and featured if we find out about it on our own. We have our own sources for finding great sites too.

What is the Queue?

The Queue is the holding area for submissions to be reviewed that visitors submit or that we find and submit for further review. Before websites are added to the Queue, they are looked over to make sure they are acceptable. Not all websites that are submitted will be added to the Queue. If a website has illegal or offensive content, or if it's broken or looks very unprofessional or sloppy - then it probably won't be added to the Queue.

What is the difference between the Queue and the Archive?

The Queue is the holding area for submissions that will be reviewed to be selected as a "Site of the Day." The Archive is a list of websites that have already been reviewed and selected as a "Site of the Day."

My website listing has a star next to it in the Queue. Does this mean my website will be picked as a "Site of the Day?"

Having a star beside your listing in the Queue does not mean that you will automatically be selected as a "Site of the Day." It puts you into a pool of "Top Site Nominees" where a more thorough review will determine whether your website is featured as a "Site of the Day." The star means that during the verification process, something stood out about your website. Sometimes it can be the design alone that stands out, or it may be the content or the idea behind the site.

My website listing doesn't have a star next to it in the Queue, but I think it's a great site. Does this mean it will not be picked as a "Site of the Day?"

Not at all. Just because your website was not flagged as one of our favorite submissions, it does not mean that your website may not be featured as a "Site of the Day." This is something that is done during a verification process to make sure that your website meets our submission guidelines. The verification editor sometimes flags a website as a favorite submission when something stands out about that website during this process. This is not the formal review of your website. A more thorough review will determine whether your website is featured as a "Site of the Day," and you will be notified if you are selected.

How does a website get into the Queue?

Website submissions are added to the Queue. This allows visitors to see the websites that have been submitted or that have been discovered and added for review. Sometimes we find websites that we want to review for the "Site of the Day" and add them to the Queue as well.
